The Burleson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an incident that happened at Caldwell Junior High after a seventh grader says she suffered second-degree burn blisters on her hands when the softball coach has her do bear crawls as a punishment.

According to the student, the incident occurred after laughing in class and being told by the principal she would be in detention for 10-20 minutes and the coach be notified about the situation.

The student reported she had two rounds of punishment from the coach – 100 squats and bear crawls on the turf - and claims the bear crawls did the damage to her hands After the alleged punishment, the student told another coach about what happened and was given some ice.

The blisters eventually popped, and the seventh grader spent seven hours at the hospital, where they cleaned the wound, numbed it and tore the skin off of it. The mother of the student, Chloe Couch, shared a post about her daughter’s injuries Thursday morning on Facebook. It was quickly shared throughout the community.

The Caldwell ISDissues a statement regarding the incident, saying “Caldwell ISD is aware of the Facebook post that circulated early this morning. We take any reports of incidents very seriously and are actively investigating the matter in accordance with our established protocols and procedures. Please be assured that appropriate actions will be taken based on the outcome of our investigation.”
