It is amazing how a few cents here, a few cents there, can add up to a significant amount. Throughout July, we have been collecting spare change here at Rhoads Memorial Library with the goal of sending it to the tornado-ravaged towns of Perryton and Matador, who suffered damage in June and July, respectively.

The total we received was $153.74. Of that amount, $55 was in the form of folding money, while the remaining $98.74 was in the form of coins. We have deposited the money into funds set up for both towns. Thank you, donors, for making this possible.

Our August Display of the Month features photographs by some Castro County 4-H members. Felice Acker, local agent with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, is their supervisor.

Tuesday, Sept. 5, is the date tentatively set for English as a Second Language (ESL) classes to resume, according to leader Gloria Hernandez. She plans to host the classes in our meeting room on Tuesdays and Thursdays, probably at 7 p.m. A definite time will be announced soon; watch this space.
