“The courage of life is often a less dramatic spectacle than the courage of a final moment; but it is no less a magnificent mixture of triumph and tragedy.”

That is a quote from the late John Fitzgerald Kennedy, whose assassination in Dallas on Nov. 22, 1963, is the subject of the November display here at Rhoads Memorial Library.

Items in the display are provided by Mary Ruth Baird. The somber exhibit commemorates the 60th anniversary of the event.

Newly released books that have arrived and are ready for checkout include: -”Dirty Thirty” (a Stephanie Plum novel) by Janet Evanovich; -”The Secret” (a Jack Reacher novel) by Lee Child and Andrew Child; -”The Spy Coast” (a thriller) by Tess Gerritsen; and -”The Christmas Appeal” (a novella) by Janice Hallett.

That last book, “The Christmas Appeal”, is touted by The Sunday Times of London as “an immersive holiday caper from author Janet Hallett, a modern Agatha Christie.” The Times says the story “follows the hilarious Fairway Players theater group as they put on a Christmas play--and solve a murder that threatens their production.”

Another new release ready for checkout is “Blood Sisters”, a suspense/thriller written by Vanessa Lillie. Critics call it “a visceral and compelling mystery about a Cherokee archeologist for the Bureau of Indian Affairs who is summoned to rural Oklahoma to investigate the disappearance of two women, one of whom is her sister.”

Two series from Guideposts have been donated to us and we have added them to our collection for checkout. The Christian-based books include “The Whistle Stop Cafe” mysteries and the “Sugarcreek Amish” mysteries.

As Thanksgiving draws near, please note that we will be closed Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, Nov. 23-25. We will reopen Tuesday, Nov. 28, at 9 a.m.

Until next week, Happy Reading!
