The calendar has turned to May 2024, and several events in and near Rhoads Memorial Library are slated, including: -Wednesday, May 8 - Dimmitt Book Club will meet for their annual spring luncheon, which marks the end of the club year. The event will be held at Dimmitt Country Club beginning at 11:30 a.m. and will feature guest speaker Sandy Haney.
-Friday, May 10 - 4-H youngsters will convene in our meeting room at 10:30 a.m. under the guidance of Felice Acker, local agent with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service.
-Tuesday, May 14 - the fourth and final class of “Cooking Well with Diabetes” will commence at noon in our meeting room, led by Courtney Lowe, Health Agent with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service. Be sure to RSVP for the lunch by calling 806485-9135.
-Thursday, May 16 - a Medicare Educational Seminar is slated to be held in our meeting room at 10:30 a.m. Christina Spruill Of Golden Age Financial in Plainview will provide updates on Medicare and Social Security.
-Tuesday, May 28 will feature “Rainwater Harvesting” from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Expo Building. The program is hosted by Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service and High Plains Underground Water Conservation District. If you RSVP by May 21st by calling 806-647-4115, there is a good chance that you will receive a free rain barrel.
This event will offer chances to win door prizes and vendors will be available for your gardening needs. The $10 entry fee will earn you the chance to learn why you should harvest rainwater, where to set up a container, and how to maintain it.
-Thursday and Friday, May 30-31, from 9 a.m to 6 p.m. daily, will feature registration for our summer reading program. The annual event will follow the theme of “Adventure Begins at Your Library” and will be held from June 4 through July 26.
Also, it is the time when Castro County schools end their year, with graduations set for Hart on May 17; Nazareth, May 18; and Dimmitt, May 24.
