Here at Rhoads Memorial Library, we are in the midst of preparing for our annual summer reading program for Castro County youngsters. “Adventure Begins at Your Library!” is this year’s theme for the event which will span June 4 through July 26.

Registration is set for the end of this month, May 3031, 2024, here at the library. Parents, grandparents, or guardians may sign youngsters up who range in age through 17. (Non-Castro County children may participate, too, if their Castro County-residing grandparent, etc. signs them up).

Among the new reads we will offer to young readers are 20 books from author Kevin Lovegreen. His books follow this year’s theme of adventure as he covers outdoor activities ranging from hunting to fishing to exploring. Additionally, each book has AR points that readers can use when they return to school.

We have not forgotten our adult patrons, though, as newly released books have arrived and are ready for checkout. They include: -Pay Dirt” (a V.I. Warshawski mystery) by Sara Paretsky; -”The Summer We Started Over” (a novel) by Nancy Thayer; -”The Angry Land” (A Smoke Jensen novel of the West) by William W. Johnstone and J.A. Johnstone; -”Only the Brave” (a novel) by Danielle Steel; -”An Unfinished Murder” (a cozy mystery) by Jude Deveraux.

Another new release is “The Trail of Lost Hearts” by Tracey Garvis Graves, which follows 34-year-old Wren Waters, who has suffered two life-altering blows and finds it hard to get out of bed. She perks up, though, when she discovers a new hobby: geocaching, which is the outdoor activity of using GPS to find hidden objects.

Wren embarks on a weeklong quest of solo geocaching in Oregon, hoping the solitary activity will allow her to take back control of her life. She is annoyed to meet another hiker on her trail, psychologist Marshall Hendricks. Wren rebuffs his attempt at small talk but is glad when he is nearby & saves her from a horrifying encounter.

In the interest of safety, Marshall suggests they partner up as they continue searching for caches. Can what began as a platonic road trip gradually develop into something deeper?

Until next week, Happy Reading!
