Attempts to decriminalize low-level marijuana offenses received a near twothirds no vote in Lubbock.

Lubbock voters rejected Proposition A, which the Lubbock city council had voted no to previously, saying they believed it would contradict state law, making it unenforceable, though the group Freedom Act Lubbock gathered enough verified signatures.

After the council vote, the measure was sent to the voters.

In addition to decriminalizing some marijuana offenses, had it passed, the ordinance would have prevented law enforcement from considering the odor as probable cause for a search or seizure.

Earlier in 2024, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton sued the cities of Austin, Denton, Elgin, Killeen and San Marcos for passing similar ordinances.
