Charley was very active all his life. In his early twenties, he was chairman of the Red Cross in Lipscomb County in 1947, being the youngest chairman in the state when the category 5 tornado hit Higgins, Texas. He also served as Secretary to the Lipscomb County draft board at this time. He was active in coaching little league and little dribblers. He served on the Nazareth School Board, Lions Club, American Legion, 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, Community Hall Committee, and Parish Council.

He started working for A.A.A. in 1940, now known as F.S.A. for over 40 years. He received the Administrators Award to Agriculture, being the first County Executive Director to receive such an award in the State of Texas. Later, June 22, 1982, was designated Charley E. Hill Day in the State of Texas.

Charley enlisted in the Army Air Corp on October 31, 1942, and received his discharge on Feb. 17, 1946. He was stationed in Hobbs, New Mexico for a period of time and later with Headquarters Squadron 20th Air Force in Guam. He and his three brothers all served overseas, at the same time, during WWII. In his “later” years, Charley loved to play volleyball, baseball, and tennis. He also loved dancing with Beverly every chance he had. Everyone who knew him loved him. We will miss his whistling, his stories (what a memory!), his laugh, and his simple words of advice…on-ly thing.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly (Gerber) Hill of the home; son, Terry Hill of Austin, Texas; daughter, Lee Ann Brown and husband David of El Reno, Oklahoma; son, Todd Hill of Lubbock, Texas; and Traci Scholl and husband Kevin of Bowie, Texas; grandchildren, Brent Hill, Clint Hill, Shawn Brown, Jeremy Brown, Krista Miller, Brylee Goodson, Harrison Hill, Lindsey Lunn, Lauren Northington, Anni Powell, Ethan Scholl, and Charlie Scholl. He was also blessed with 14 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Charlie is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, John, Walter, and Leonard; sisters, Cordie Mae Holt and Ruth Boles; along with brother-in-law, Gary Gerber; and grandson, Stacy Swartz.

The family suggests memorials be made to Nazareth Senior Citizens, PO Box 241, Nazaeth, TX 79063.
