Governor Abbott has announced the launch of "Operation Lone Star," aimed to combat the smuggling of drugs and people into Texas. Abbott, along with the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) sent out the announcement, stating a mission of addressing the current smuggling crisis at the southern border.

According to Felice Acker, Castro County AgriLife Extension agent, research shows that walking at a good pace for at least 2.5 hours each week improves blood pressure, reduces risk of depression, prevents weight gain, increases energy levels, and reduces risk of heart disease and diabetes.

Safe Outdoor Dogs Legislation HB 873 up for consideration

The House Criminal Jurisprudence Committee is hearing HB 873 by Chair Nicole Collier (D-Fort Worth), otherwise call the Safe Outdoor Dogs Legislation. HB 873 includes key elements to protect dogs, including from extreme outdoor temperatures, which could have prevented unnecessary deaths during last month's winter storm.

DISD approves updated mask guidelines

The Dimmitt ISD school board approved changes in accordance with Governor Greg Abbott’s Executive Order GA-34 addressing the statewide wearing of face coverings which takes effect on March 10. The Texas Education Agency (TEA) has the authority to implement operational requirements remains in effect for public schools (TEZ’s Public Health Guidance).

Rivera appointed to serve on TARC
