A Dimmitt Chamber of Commerce Ribbon Cutting was held for Fresh Donuts Plus owned by Sam and Savy Cheam. The business opened this past June and has become a popular morning stop for fresh donuts and pastries. Open daily until 1 p.m., it is located at 122 NW 2n St. in Dimmitt and features both walk-in and drive-through services.

Covid vaccine arrives in Texas

As the first Covid-19 vaccine arrives in Texas, some 109 medical facilities are earmarked to receive the first allocation of 1.4 million doses. After winning approval for emergency use by the FDA, nearly a quarter of a million doses of the Pfizer vaccine will start being injected into the arms of front-line medical workers who volunteer for the shot.

Rivera reports on C-19 in county

Sheriff Sal Rivera, who serves as the Castro County Emergency Management coordinator, gave an update on COVID-19 for the county on Monday. He said the county currently has 525 confirmed cases, with 471 recoveries, 43 active and 11 deaths.

State sales tax distribution down

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced today he will send cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts $790.3 million in local sales tax allocations for December, 3.7 percent less than in December 2019.

Legislators file 450+ bills first day

Though the 87th Texas Legislature won't gavel in until January, state lawmakers got started early on filing legislation. By mid-morning on the first day to pre-file, more than 450 bills had been filed in the House and Senate.
