The Hereford High School Tennis Team will take on Andrews Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Frenship High School in the Bi-District Team Tennis Playoffs. The team topped West Plains 10-9 Wednesday to claim third place in district. Complete results are on page 5.

HERD TENNIS TOPS WEST PLAINS FOR THIRD PLACE

The Hereford Lady Whitefaces rallied from an early setback to defeat Borger 3-1 on Tuesday, Sept. 29.Borger took the opening set 25-21, but Hereford responded by winning the next three sets. The Whitefaces took Set 2, 25-14, followed by a dominant 25-8 victory in Set 3.

DECISION MAKERS--The Deaf Smith County 4-H Consumer Decision Making teams had second and third place finishes at the Tri State Fair in Amarillo. The junior team (above, left) of Colin Matthews, Trew Baird, Graylen Garman, and Isabella Olivarez placed third and Colin Matthews was the high individual.
The Hereford Cross Country varsity teams both traveled to Stillwater, Okla., Saturday to compete. The boys team finished in sixth place while the girls finished in eighth place. The teams are both in a Lubbock meet Saturday.

When they arrive in September, drakes and hens are colored much alike. Drakes later sport blue heads and a white crescent in front of the eye in breeding plumage. Populations are highly responsive to wetland conditions and in this year’s dry times, numbers are down.

Blue-winged Teal population continues to decline

Despite sparse rainfall and dry playas the Texas early teal season is opening soon and will run September 19–27. This year marks a second reduced nine-day season due to the lower population estimate for blue-winged teal. Bag limit is six daily of blue-winged, green-winged, or cinnamon teal.
