Challenges to Texas schools abound across the state, and Dimmitt Independent School District is no exception, with teacher and employee compensation, hiring and retention, facility safety and security, student services and district technology being at the forefront of concerns.
With funding being a major obstacle in some areas, Superintendent Jill Millican, Mike Huseman, DISD Director of Finance & Budget and the Board of Trustees have been seeking ways to improve the situation without putting a lot of additional burden on property taxpayers, while still addressing the problem.
The DISD trustees approved a tax rate election for Nov. 8 and discounts on taxes owed if paid by certain dates. These discounts give the opportunity for taxpayers to limit the effect of the new rate on their taxes owed as compared to last year. Taxpayers with homestead exemptions on their residences will still see a significant decrease in taxes due to tax compression legislation by the state.
