Grand Jury action for Aug. 2 in the 242nd District Court, Judge Kregg Hukill residing, saw several indictments handed down, the most serious being for murder.
Jose Gil III, 37 of Dimmitt, was indicted for murder, a 1st degree felony, in connection with the death of Timothy Ewing, 58 of Dimmitt, on May 14. According to reports and witnesses who made the 911 calls, Gil assaulted the victim with a T-post.
Gil was arraigned on May 16 with Justice of the Peace Stephen Taylor setting bail at $250,000 on the assault charges. The murder charge was added following the investigation by the Texas Rangers and Ewing’s death at UMC in Lubbock; arraignment was on May 19 and bail set at $500,000.
