Texas unemployment rises slightly in May

Texas unemployment figures showed a slight increase in May, with the state coming in at 3.8, compared to the April data of 3.7 unemployment rate, despite adding 74,200 total nonagricultural jobs, and for the seventh consecutive month, setting a new employment high as total nonfarm jobs reached 13,357,100.

Texas has added 762,400 positions since May 2021, though a high percentage of those have been people returning to jobs after the pandemic.

The Amarillo and Austin-Round Rock Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSA) recorded May’s lowest unemployment rates among Texas MSAs with a not seasonally adjusted rate of 2.7 percent, followed by College Station-Bryan at 2.9 percent, then Lubbock at 3.0 percent.
