He never forgets a name

And the Lord said to Moses, “This very thing that you have spoken I will do, for you have found favour in my sight, and I know you by name.” Exodus 33:17 One of my failings in life is the inability to remember people’s names. It is most frustrating, and embarrassing, when I bump into someone who I have known for years butforget their name. “Hi… er… so good to see you again. How are you?” all the while my brain is thrashing about in its archives, desperately trying to put a name to the face. It’s not that they are any less important or not dear to me, it’s just that their name illudes me. Thankfully, I have a very capable wife on hand who always remembers people’s names. And that’s important because your name is who you are.

It’s a profound reality that the eternal Almighty God knows you by name, and he never forgets a name. By the intimacy of his Holy Spirit, he knows you personally. He even knew you before you were born. The poet, King David, wrote, “For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb,” and Jeremiah the prophet quoted God’s words to him saying, “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you.” Paul the apostle wrote in his epistle to the Corinthians, “Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.”

Your Lord God knows your name. Your Lord knows who you are. He knows every detail about you, past present and future. Jesus said that Father God even knows the number of hairs on your head. How amazing is that? So have no doubts, you are wrapped up in his love; you are safe in his hand; you are seated with Christ in God. He has not forgotten you, and he knows the plans he has for you. Your Lord cares about every detail of your life. Rest assured; your God never forgets a name. So, roll your life onto him and walk in trust that he will –yes, he will – see you through every calamity of life.
