Wildfire threat continues in region

The threat for large, fastmoving wildfires continues to increase across Texas with very hot and dry weather and worsening drought. There are currently 206 counties in Texas with burn bans, including Castro and surrounding counties.

State and local resources have been busy over recent weeks with wildfire response. Over the past 10 days, Texas A&M Forest Service resources have responded to 98 wildfires that burned 17,763 acres across the state, with 43 new wildfires from July 8-10, and six new fires on Monday.

According to the Lone Star State Incident Management Team and Texas A&M Forest Service, there are currently 391 personnel from 33 states along with 36 aviation assets staged in Texas to respond to new and ongoing wildfires and supplement local fire department resources.
