West Texas hit by 5.4 mag earthquake

The Texas oil and gas agency is investigating a 5.4 magnitude earthquake that occurred in West Texas this past Wednesday, the largest in three decades.

The quake, confirmed by the U.S. Geological Survey, was the third largest in Texas history. An increase in seismic activity in Texas has been linked to injecting fracking wastewater underground.

Inspectors for the Texas Railroad Commission are investigating the event that was recorded west of Pecos near the border of Reeves and Culberson counties.
