The Castro County Judge Candidate Forum is coming up as early voting gets underway for the 2022 mid-term election.

With the county judge seat being one of the most important positions in county leadership, The Castro County News will be giving the opportunity to residents of the county to hear what the candidates’ positions are on issues and what their vision for the future is should they be elected.

The forum will be held on Oct. 27 at 7 p.m. at the Dimmitt City Hall. The public is encouraged to attend, with the general election coming up on Nov. 8.

Candidates for county judge are Janett Sammann, independent, and Mandy Gfeller, Republican.

Moderating the forum will be William Van Zee, senior at Dimmitt High School who graciously accepted the request to lead the event.

Following open remarks, each candidate will have the opportunity to introduce themselves, offer their qualifications and what they have to offer to the position of county judge.

Van Zee will then begin asking a series of about 10 questions on subjects such as property taxes, emergency management, animal control, unfunded mandates and other issues that concern the people of the county. Each candidate will have adequate time to make a response. to offer their answers, concerns, thoughts and ideas. Following the formal questions, the public will have the chance to address their own concerns and ask each candidate questions.

This is a great opportunity to be an informed voter and knowledgeable for the local election for county judge and hopefully learn what kind of leadership can be expected.
