The Dimmitt Bobbies lost their second district game to the Denver City Fillies, 18-8.

“We struggled in this game with pitching, hitting and field errors,” said Coach Vicky Ruiz. “We did go six innings, but our bats came into play too late to keep the game going.”

Denver City gained a seven-run lead in the first inning and both teams went without runs in the second third innings.

The Bobbies came through with two runs in the fourth inning, while the Fillies brought in four more runs, to put the score at 11-2.

Dimmitt again went to bat and drove in another four runs in the fifth inning, with Denver City doing the same, bringing the Fillies lead to 15- 6.

The Bobbies scored again in the sixth inning, but were unable to close the Denver City lead, falling 18-8.

Bobbies pitcher Alondra Velo started off the first inning with 16 balls and 16 strikes, giving up three hits, two walks and seven runs. JC Sepeda came in the second inning to relieve Velo, had four strikeouts with 45 balls and 56 strikes, allowing six hits and four walks. Nina Vasquez closed out the game in the sixth inning with a total of 17 balls and eight strikes, allowing one hit and four walks.

Fielding stats:

Jazlyn Rodriguez had three putouts and one double play; Nina Vasquez, five putouts and one assist; JC Sepeda, two assists; Maraya Corrales, four putouts; Ashleigh Broom, one putout and one assist; Alendra Velo, one putout; and Natalie Reyes, one putout.

Batting stats:

Nina Vasquez had three singles, three RBIs and one stolen base; Ariana Perez, one double and one RBI; JC Sepeda, one single, one double and two RBIs and one stolen base; Ashleigh Broom, one single; Mariah Marmolejo, one single; Natalie Reyes, two singles and one stolen base; and Caitlyn Olmos, one single.

Jazlyn Rodriguez was named Bobbies player of the game. She had an ‘amazing’ double play at shortstop with a line drive and catching the second base runner off the bag.

The team had a total of eight errors.
