  • Nazareth FFA Emily Durbin recently received a $4,000 Fort Worth Calf Scramble Scholarship. Those who complete the Calf Scramble Program may be eligible for scholarships based on the quality and content of monthly reports submitted to Calf Scramble Program sponsors, the effort devoted to caring for and exhibiting their heifer and their final essay outlining their Calf Scramble experience.

The Dimmitt Bobbies powerlifters competed at the THSWPA Region 1 – 3A Regionals meet and brought home the team trophy and qualified five girls to compete at the state meet.

The Regional meet was held in Shamrock on Saturday, with 12 schools competing and ??? athletes participating to trip to Frisco for state titles.

Top Bobbies lifters punching a ticket to state were Allyson Jones (259+) with a first place; Na’Khiyah Porras (220), first place ; Kimberly Solis (198), second place; Karla Perez (132), second place; and Nissa Sanchez (123), fourth place.

Na’khiyah Porras (220 weight class) set a Regionals record at 410 pounds.

The DHS girls powerlifting team is coached by Ruby Romero who won the 3A “winningest coach award.”

Regional Team Standings: 1. Dimmitt, 2. Ballinger, 3. Crane, 4. Coahoma, 5. Merkel, 6. Alpine, 7. Friona, 8. Tulia, 9. San Angelo, 10. Stanton, 11. Childress, and 12. Abernathy.

Dimmitt Bobbies will be traveling to the THSWPA State Powerlifting Meet to be held on March 14-18.

The 3A schools will be competing on March 16. The 3A Small School weigh ins are from 5:30 – 7 a.m. followed by a coaches’ meeting at 7:15 a.m. Competition begins at 8 a.m. The 3A Big Schools weigh from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and competition begins at 1:30 p.m.

The state championships will be held at Comerica Center, 2601 Avenue of the Stars in Frisco.
