A Hart man tragically lost his life in a one-car crash on Monday morning.

A call came into the dispatchers on July 11 around 8:12 a.m. reporting a major traffic accident on FM 145 about 3 to 4 miles west of Hart.

Reports on the accident state the driver, Jose Ruiz, 55 of Hart, was traveling westbound on FM 145 and lost control of the 2010 Chrysler Sebring he was driving. The initial report indicated that the vehicle struck standing water on the roadway from a nearby field being irrigated traveled off the north side of the roadway and rolled over, ejecting the driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt.

Units responding to the call were the Sheriff’s Office, Hart Fire Department, AMR EMS, Texas DPS and Don’s Body Shop which provided wrecker Service. DPS Trooper Weller from Oldham County investigated the accident.

Castro County Judge Carroll Gerber pronounced Ruiz deceased at the scene.

The accident was still under DPS investigation at the time of this report.
