DISD approves substitute teacher pay scale

The Dimmitt Independent School District board of trustees met on Monday and, following an executive session, approved the DISD substitute pay scale.

Certified teacher substitutes with no college degree will receive $75 per day; with a college degree, $95 per day; and a certified teacher will receive $115 per day.

Long term substitutes who work at least 10 consecutive days for the same employee will be paid as follows: substituting for a certified teacher, with no college degree, $80 per day and with a college degree, $100 per day, and a certified teacher will receive $125 per day

Substitutes for paraprofessionals and secretaries will be paid at a rate of $75 per day, with or without a degree or certification. Long-term substitutes (more than 10 days for the same employee) for paraprofessionals and secretaries will all receive $80 per day.

In other action, trustees endorsed the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) candidate from Region 16. Cindy Spanel will serve on the TASB board for a 3-year term.

Trustees also approved the DISD Local Board Policy Update 119 (local) which included CPC office/records management; DMA professional/required staff development; EHAA basic instructional program; EHB, curriculum design/special programs; EHBAA special education; EHBB, special programs for gifted and talented; EIF, graduation and academic achievement; FFBA, crisis intervention, trauma informed care; and FFH, student welfare and freedom from discrimination, harassment, and retaliation.

The 2022-2023 DISD Student Code of Conduct was additionally approved.

DISD superintendent Jill Millican gave her report to the board on upcoming training, conventions, safety plans and beginning of school dates for the district.

With school set to begin on Aug. 17, new teachers will be reporting for duty Aug. 1-3 with a new teacher luncheon on Aug. 1 at the Richardson Elementary Cafeteria.

Returning DISD teachers will be reporting Aug. 8-11, 15-16 for teacher in-service, with a Teacher Convocation at DMS Auditorium on Aug. 8. First United Bank will have a hamburger lunch at the DHS Cafeteria on Aug. 10; and the First Baptist Church lunch on Aug. 11.

Millican outlined required school board training for 2022 which included EISO (Evaluating and Improving Student Outcomes) with a an October meeting scheduled at Hereford ISD; School Board Safety Training which can be done online or in the DISD board room (a new program that will be required every two years); and Child Abuse Training required every two years and can be done online or at the DISD board room.
