If you are in the mood for a book in the Western genre, we have acquired some here at Rhoads Memorial Library. We purchased over 60 gently used large-print Westerns for our readers and they are ready for checkout (the Westerns, not the readers).

That reminds me: I read an article recently that told how a library or workplace can provide people for checkout. While that idea may evoke some alarming concepts, it is not what you think. Volunteers with personal experience with their topic are “loaned out” to others, remaining within the confines and safety of the participating organization, to meet and learn about one another.

The Human Library, created via a Danish idea in 2000, was designed to “build a positive framework for conversations that can challenge stereotypes and prejudices through dialogue.” Taboo topics may be broached concerning social, ethnic, political, and religious differences.

For those who prefer to read actual books about differing experiences and outlooks, we offer some newly released books that are ready for checkout. They include: -”Countdown” (a thriller) by James Patterson and Brendan DuBois; -”All That is Hidden” (a Molly Murphy mystery) by Rhys Bowen and Clare Broyles; -”I Will Find You” (a thriller) by Harlen Coben; -”Collateral Damage” (Ali Reynolds’ series) by J.A. Jance.

Closer to home: you may have noticed that the “Library Lines” column that appeared in the March edition of “The Castro County News” reappeared in the March 30 edition. I am told that technical difficulties were the problem, but was it really an early April Fool’s joke? We may never know...

Hot Wheels’ model cars are being shown as the Display of the Month of April at Rhoads Memorial Library. Leah Cavazos is exhibiting her collection of 160 miniature vehicles that range from motorcycles to racing cars to trucks.

The 25th Ogallala Quilter’s Festival held recently throughout Dimmitt was, by all accounts, quite a success. We were delighted to host three of their classes in our meeting room and look forward to the event again next year.

Young Scientists’ takeand- make kits for April are here and ready to be picked up. “Rain Sticks” is the theme. Creator of the popular educational kits for youngsters is Felice Acker, local agent with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service. Until next week, Happy Reading!
