“Now she was on a Texas two-lane heading straight west on a line between Tulia and Dimmitt. The scenery was a mix of desert and low brush...” This excerpt came from the newlyreleased book by James Patterson titled “Holmes, Marple, and Poe: The Greatest Crime-Solving Team of the Twenty-First Century” and it is available for checkout here at Rhoads Memorial Library.

Co-written by Brian Sitts, the book has been widely promoted by James Patterson and is the beginning of a new series. One of our favorite patrons alerted us to the fact that Dimmitt is mentioned in the book and is even spelled correctly. (Thanks, Tiffany!)

This is noteworthy since Patterson is the top-selling author in the world, having written dozens of books that have been translated into 50 languages. More than 375 million copies of his books have been sold worldwide, in genres ranging from suspense/ thrillers to children’s books to romances.

Other series created by Patterson include protagonists Alex Cross, Detective Michael Bennett, Women’s Murder Club, Private and NYPD Red. Born in 1947, Patterson has no plans to stop writing any time soon, which should make our patrons happy as his books are the most checked out here.

As for other new releases, we offer: -”The Bright Spot” (a novel) by Jill Shalvis; -”One in a Million” (a Western/frontier romance) by Janet Dailey; -”The Friendship Club” (a novel) by Robyn Carr; -”Random in Death” (an Eve Dallas suspense/thriller) by J.D. Robb.

Another new release is “You Only Call When You’re in Trouble” by Stephen McCauley. Described as a work of humorous fiction, this book ponders: is it ever okay to stop caring for others and start living for yourself? One reviewer noted that it “demonstrates the beauty or dysfunction (or both?) of the ties that bind families together and sometimes strangle them.”

Closer to home, Dimmitt Book Club will meet at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2024, in our meeting room. Member Zetha Collins will be the featured speaker.

It is hard to believe that the Ogallala Quilt Festival is fast approaching. The annual event is set for April 5-6, here in Dimmitt. The deadline to enter a quilt is Feb. 14; brochures detailing that procedure and describing the actual event may be picked up at our circulation desk.

Until next week, Happy Reading!
