Library Lines ...

We were literally in the dark here at Rhoads Memorial Library on March 22, when the electricity went out. Luckily, we had only a few patrons at the time; they were very understanding and patient as we sat out the 45-minute outage.

Lights on each side of our exit signs came on to light pathways throughout the building and they worked admirably. We loaned out flashlights, though, to those who needed more concentrated, brighter lighting as they perused our bookshelves. Some even sat by windows to read.

Evidently most (maybe all?) of Dimmitt, Nazareth, and Hart experienced this blackout. We were reminded how reliant we are on electricity and how much we take it for granted. Thankfully our power strips’ surge protectors operated well, and no computers or other devices were damaged.

As April fast approaches, following is a list of several upcoming events: -April 5-6, will feature the 2024 Ogallala Quilt Festival here in Dimmitt. Some classes will be held in our meeting room and our display case holds items of interest for the event. Other locations throughout our city will host displays and classes.

-April 8, is the date when the solar eclipse will occur. Although we will not be open since it falls on a Monday (our day off) we will offer some safety glasses prior to that date, first come, first served.

-April 10 is the date when Dimmitt Book Club convenes at 2 p.m. in our meeting room. Dimmitt native and author Natalie (Cline) Bright will be bringing her newly released book, “End of the Trail Eats.”

-April 12, is when a 4-H meeting is scheduled in our meeting room at 10:30 a.m. It will be led by Felice Acker, local agent with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service.

-April 16, will feature another “Cooking Well with Diabetes” luncheon from noon until 1 p.m. in our meeting room. Courtney Lowe, health agent with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, will lead the event.

The above list provides a bare bones mention of these events, just to whet your interest. Follow this space for additional details in upcoming weeks.

Here’s a final reminder that we will be closed on Good Friday, March 29, and Saturday, March 30, in observance of Easter. We will re-open on Tuesday, April 2, at 9 a.m.

We wish you and yours a Happy Easter!
