Panhandle Community Services (PCS) is teaming up with us here at Rhoads Memorial Library to explain health insurance that is offered at little or no cost to the uninsured. PCS is providing Certified Health Navigators at our facility, Thursday, Dec. 16, from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. and everyone is welcome to attend the free event.

The navigators will assist attendees in understanding and applying for health insurance that covers annual checkups, hospitalizations, prescription drugs, doctor visits, specials, and emergency care, to name a few of the benefits. PCS notes that, due to changes in the law in 2021, almost everyone who applies qualifies for financial help. If you or someone you know cannot attend call PCS at 806-372-2531 for an appointment before the Jan. 15, 2022, enrollment period ends. Availability of Market Place insurance is offered through the Affordable Care Act.

Dimmitt Book Club met recently, with "Christmas Fun" featured as the program. Members and guests worked through yuletidethemed puzzles and winners were awarded prizes for their efforts.

There will not be a meeting of Dimmitt Book Club in January 2022, so the next meeting is slated on Wednesday, Feb. 9, in our meeting room at 2 p.m.

Newly released books that have arrived and are ready for checkout include:

"Autopsy: A Scarpetta Novel" (Kay Scarpetta series) by Patricia Cornwell;

"Flying Angels" (a novel) by Danielle Steel;

"The Midnight Lock" (a Lincoln Rhyme novel) by Jeffery Deaver;

"Wish You Were Here" (a novel) by Jodi Picoult.

Recently released in September and available for checkout is "Harlem Shuffle" by Colson Whitehead, the twotime Pulitzer Prize-winning author of "The Underground Railroad" and "The Nickel Boys." According to the book's blurb, "Harlem Shuffle" is "a family saga masquerading as a crime novel, a hilarious morality play, a social novel about race and power, set in Harlem in the 1960s."

Remember that we will observe Christmas by closing at noon on Thursday, Dec. 23, and remain closed through Monday, Dec. 27. We will reopen on Tuesday, Dec. 28, at 9 a.m.

Then, later that week, we will be closed on New Year's Eve, Dec. 31, and remain closed through Monday, Jan. 3, 2022. We will re-open on Tuesday, Jan. 4.

Until next week, Happy Reading!
