Theoretically, tax forms for the 2020 tax year should be arriving any day now here at Rhoads Memorial Library. A Jan. 21, 2021 email to us from the IRS noted that forms had been shipped and should arrive "soon" but they did not know when the instruction booklets would be shipped. We will put a sign on the front door heralding the arrival of forms when appropriate.

Any forms or booklets that we receive from the IRS are free, meaning we do not charge you. If we print a form for you from the IRS.gov website, however, each page is 25 cents.

We are in the midst of our annual book sale, which will end Saturday, Jan. 30, 2021, at noon. Teachers' workbooks, piano instruction books, children's easy readers and chapter books are among the items for sale, plus adult fiction in the form of hardbacks and pa perbacks. A large selection of cookbooks, which are among our best sellers, are offered, too, along with many other books and movies.

A new addition to our sale is "Unclaimed Lost and Found" items. Caps, a black cowboy hat, a spoon, pairs of eyeglasses, a pair of children's sneakers, etc. are among the treasures that can be yours for 50 cents each.

Jan. 31, 2021, marks the end of the current "Food for Fines" program where we accept one unexpired can of food for every $3 of late fees owed. This once-a-year deal does not apply to lost books, however. We will deliver the goods to the local food pantry for distribution.

Newly released books that have arrived and are ready for checkout include:

"The Lost Boys" (a Decker/Lazarus novel) by Faye Kellerman;

"Robert B. Parker's Someone to Watch Over Me" (a Spenser novel) by Ace Atkins;

"Spin" (a Captain Chase novel) by Patricia Cornwell.

Fans of the Kopp Sisters series by Amy Stewart will enjoy the most recent entry titled "Dear Miss Kopp." Constance, the eldest of the Kopp sisters, is performing intelligence work for the Bureau of Investigation since the U.S. has entered World War I. Also supporting the war effort is youngest sister, Fleurette, who travels across the country entertaining troops with song and dance. Meanwhile, middle sister Norma is in France working on a pigeon project. When Norma's roommate, a nurse at the American field hospital, is accused of stealing essential medical supplies, Norma works to identify the true culprit.
