Do you need some entertainment while you take a long driving trip or prepare to tackle some home improvement project? We may have just the thing for you here at Rhoads Memorial Library. We have purchased scores of audiobooks, also known as talking books, that might help you pass the time while performing some tedious activity.

The gently used audiobooks, bought from an area public library, have been catalogued and shelved and are ready for checkout. None of them are more than a few years old, which makes them newer than anything we already had. We have checked them to be sure that they are in working order. A red dot on their spine means that the audiobook came to us in 2022 and is new to us. Favorite authors, along with new ones, as well as a variety of genres, can be found in our collection.

Registration for Castro County youngsters' summer reading program will be held next Tuesday, May 31, 2022, here in the library. The program, whose theme is "Oceans of Possibility", will be held from June 1 through July 29, 2022. Small prizes are awarded as youngsters complete reading lists, then a chance at grand prizes occurs later.

Thursday, June 2, 2022, is the date of the monthly Diabetes Support Group gathering in our meeting room. It will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. with Courtney Lowe, Health agent with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, leading the meeting.

Newly released books that have arrived and are ready for checkout include:

-"The Summer Place" (a novel) by Jennifer Weiner;

-"Robert B. Parker's Revenge Tour (a Sunny Randall novel) by Mike Lupica;

-"Nightwork" (a novel) by Nora Roberts.

"Hidden Pictures" by Jason Rekulak is a darker work that follows Mallory Quinn, who is hired by Ted and Caroline Maxwell as a nanny for their five-year-old son, Teddy. Mallory loves her work and bonds with the shy, sweet youngster, who always has a sketchbook and pencil.

Teddy draws bunnies, stick figures, etc. But as his sketches become lifelike, well beyond the ability of any five-year-old, Mallory becomes alarmed. When Teddy draws the lifeless body of a woman being dragged by a man in a forest, Mallory realizes she must decipher the images and save Teddy before it's too late.

Remember we will be closed Saturday, May 28, in observance of Memorial Day. We will re-open on Tuesday, May 31, at 9 a.m.

Until next week, Happy Reading!
