“My housekeeping style is best described as follows: ‘There appears to have been a struggle...’” I once read that whimsical quip on a plaque and that’s what came to mind when I surveyed our workroom/storeroom area here at Rhoads Memorial Library.

In an effort to return to normalcy after the holidays, we were boxing up Christmas decorations and the nine-foot-tall tree, unpacking the winter snow people decorations, while simultaneously organizing books, movies, and audio CDs for our upcoming book sale. (It also reminded me of my father-in-law’s favorite saying about “the wreck of the Hesperus.” The phrase, from the poem of the same name by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, alludes to something that is very untidy.)

Everything is in its place now, except for the book sale items. We will begin setting those out in our meeting room next week, in time for the Jan. 24 start of the sale.

As for continuing events: Food for Fines will end on Jan. 31. Even if you do not owe late fees, you may donate canned goods and they will go to the local food pantry.

Young Scientists’ take-andmake kits that are being distributed this month to youngsters feature “snowflake mobiles.” Felice Acker, local agent with Texas A&M Extension Service, created the popular kits.

English as a SecondLanguage classes taught by Gloria Hernandez resumed this week after a brief hiatus due to the holidays. The classes are held each Tuesday and Thursday at 7 p.m. in our meeting room.

Supposedly, federal tax forms and instructions for 2022 will arrive in a week or two, according to the IRS. When they do, we’ll post a sign on the front door and have them available at our circulation desk. They will be offered first come, first serve and will be free of charge.

Other forms may be accessed via the IRS.gov website. If you print them here, the cost is 25 cents per page. If you cannot locate the exact form you need, we can help you and the cost of printing will be the same.

Displayer for the month of January is Griffin Neinast, 10year-old son of Abby and Cody Neinast of Dimmitt. Griffin is exhibiting some of his collection of Legos’ creations, including a replica of R2-D2, one of the beloved robots in the Star Wars’ saga.

Newly released books that have arrived and are ready for checkout include: -”Blue Moon Haven” (the New Americana Series) by Janet Dailey; -”Wicked Dreams” (a thriller) by Lisa Jackson and Nancy Bush; -”Death in the Margins” (a Blue Ridge Library mystery) by Victoria Gilbert.

Until next week, Happy Reading!
