Robotics teams from Nazareth, Dimmitt and Hart competed at the FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC), Meet 3 this past weekend.
The Naz robotics teams have been rising to the top of their league again this season. Team 18570 is currently ranked third and 16617 is ranked fourth. Naz registered a third team at this last meet and performed admirably.
Team #16617 is Nazareth’s most experienced team. Luke Schulte, Tanner Birkenfeld, Chloe Birkenfeld , and Aiden Chea made a great showing. They won 14 of their 15 matches this season. While they are not currently ranked first, they have won the most matches in the league and are in position to make a run for the league title again this year.
Team #18570 is Nazareth’s second most experienced team. Harrison Meador, Adrian Rios, Breck Proctor, Spencer Acker, and Michael Fulkerson have risen to 3rd in the league. They are also in an excellent position in the league and have their own chance at the League title.
Team #22952 is Naz robotics most recent addition. Reid Backus, Simon Snead, and Aiden Chea splintered off from the #16617 team and started competing with their own machine. They rose to the 22nd place of 26 having only competed in five of the 15 matches this season.
According to their coach, Robert O’Connor, “Overall, our county and school are performing toward the top of our region. Team #16617 holds the highest score in the region with Kelton. Team #18570 holds the second highest score with Dimmitt, and Team #22952 holds the third highest score with Hart.
“Nazareth teams hold eight of the top 10 scores posted across the Region (El Paso, Midland, Lubbock, and Amarillo areas). Four of those eight matches were with either Dimmitt or Hart teams. Our school and county are performing very well this season.”
Hart Robotics teams also competed in the FTC meet this past weekend in their third meet of the season. The Hart Robotics Team #19782, Nidia Minjarez, Ty Rhodes and Jord’n Carrasco, moved from 18th place into 9th place with four wins and one loss. Longhorn Robotics Team #21780 Longhorn Robotics, Delylah Saldana, Sarah Morales, and Diego Longoria, moved from 24th to 21st with three wins and two losses.
Castro County robotics teams: Nazareth Robotics Team #16617 has been competing in the FTC for four seasons, and a total of 23 official events. They were a rookie (and began competing) in 2019.
Swift PowerMech Team #18570 has been competing in the FTC for four seasons, and a total of 26 official events. They were a rookie (and began competing) in 2019.
Naz Dauntless Team #22952 has been competing in the FTC as rookies for one season, and a total of one official event.
Bobcat Robotics Team #12398 has been competing in the FTC for four seasons, and a total of 26 official events. They were a rookie (and began competing) in 2019.
Robocat Team #13755 has been competing in the FTC for four seasons, and a total of 23 offi cial events. They were a rookie (and began competing) in 2019.
Hart Robotics Team #19782 has been competing in the FTC for two seasons, and a total of 10 official events. They were a rookie (and began competing) in 2021.
Longhorn Robotics Team #21780 has been competing in the FTC as rookies in their first season, with a total of three offi cial events.

The League Championship will be on Feb. 11 at AmTech located at 3601 Plains Blvd. in Amarillo. Matches will run in the afternoon and into the evening, culminating in a single elimination playoff between four alliances. The public is welcome to attend and cheer on their favorite teams.
