Sheriff gives monthly, year-end report at Commissioners Court

Castro County Sheriff Sal Rivera gave his monthly report for December at Commissioners Court and reported a total of 204 calls for December.

In December, the Castro County Sheriff’s Office received 90 (44.1%) of the total; with the Dimmitt Police Department receiving 72 (35%); EMS, 27 (13.2%); Dimmitt ACO, one call; Texas DPS, two calls; fire departments, seven calls; and miscellaneous, five calls.

Of the 90 calls the Sheriff’s Deputies made, the issued 61 traffic citations; 174 warning, made five traffic stop arrests, issued one criminal citation, had a total of eight arrests, two warrants, 22 reports and five transports.

Total calls for 2021 for each agency: Sheriff’s Office, 896 (36.1%); Dimmitt PD, 1,044 (42.1%); Dimmitt ACO, 21 (0.8%); Texas DPS, 51 (2.1%); fire departments, 61 (2.5%); EMS, 340 (13.7%); miscellaneous, 66 (2.6%); and DISD PD, two calls (0.08%).

Drug seizures for December included 172.2 grams of marijuana; 70 grams of methamphetamine; 1,078.5 grams of synthetic controlled substances; 2.3 grams cocaine; and 13 PDP arrests.

The total drugs seized in 2021: 675 grams marijuana; 129.8 meth; 1,530 synthetic controlled substances; 2.6 grams cocaine; dangerous drugs, 44 grams; 1.2 grams heroin; and 15 PDP arrests.

The average inmate population at the Castro County Jail in December was 28.26, with 32 at the facility on Dec. 31. There were 30 men and four women booked into jail throughout the month and currently there are 28 on-site inmates at the jail.

Out-of-county inmate housing at the Castro County jail included Floyd inmates for $950; Lamb County inmates, $150; and Bailey County, $1,550. The total revenue for out-of-county inmate housing was $2,650.

The 2021 end-of-year statistics for the jail:

-Jail meals served – 22,282

-Transports by jail personnel – 59

-People booked into the Castro jail – 358 (282 men, 76 women)

-Immigration detainers – 11 men

-Out-of-county inmate housing revenue for a 12-month period, $80,900.

The monthly racial profiling report showed 240 traffic stops, with 48 on cities streets, 110 on US highways, 81 on state highways, and one on a county road. Ethnicity was not known on any of the stops.

Violations included 183 moving traffic violations and 55 vehicle traffic violations. No physical force resulting in bodily injury was used during stops.

There were 22 searches conducted with 13 giving consent and seven probable cause, and two leading to arrest. Contraband was discovered in seven of the searches, with seven involving drugs, one, alcohol.

There were 174 written warnings and 61 citations, and five citations with arrests.

No racial profiling complaints were filed.
