Sheriff Sal Rivera presented his monthly report to the Castro County Commissioners Court, updating them on county law enforcement calls, the jail report and fire departments.

Total calls for service in January included the Castro County Sheriff’s Office with 62; Dimmitt Police Department, 35: Texas DPS, three; fire departments, five; and Emergency Medical Service, 31.

During January, the Sheriff’s Office had five deputy assists, 16 citations, 45 warnings, two criminal citations, four arrests, four warrants, 20 reports and 13 civil, and two transports. Deputies seized 1.0 grams of marijuana, 59.7 grams of methamphetamine, 3.9 grams of synthetic substances, 8.4 grams of cocaine and one drug paraphernalia.

Total calls for service in February included, Sheriff’s Office, 54; DPD, 53; Texas DPS, four; fire departments, six; and EMS, 44. Deputies had 13 calls to assist other agencies, with EMS assisting with six.

Fire department calls included page outs for fires, wrecks, medical calls (Nazareth and Hart), natural disasters, assistance in missing person search and other miscellaneous calls. Dimmitt had nine calls; Hart, eight calls; Nazareth, three calls. Other fire departments called to assist were Hereford FD and Dawn FD, with two calls.

In February, the Sheriff’s Office had 13 deputy assists, 21 citations, 45 warnings, five criminal citations, four arrests, two warrants, 13 reports, 22 civil and one transport. Deputies seized 4.23 grams of marijuana, 1.0 grams of synthetic substances and two drug paraphernalia.

The Castro County Jail showed an average of 34 inmates for February - 30 males and four females. There were 19 males booked into jail for the month, and three females, with 37 inmates on-site on March 6. Immigration detainers included two males and two females.

Out-of-county inmate housing included: Cochran County, $6,900 plus $116.12 medical reimbursement; and Floyd County, $1,450.

Maintenance in February included MC Electric coming in to service the lobby and deputy office lights, with a planned visit to service the panel in the control room.
