Tri-State Fair kicks off on Sept. 16

The Tri-State Fair & Rodeo starts on Sept. 16 and will see many Castro County exhibitors competing in livestock competition and other events.

Some activities at the fair include Jerry Harris, master hypnotist, the Jet Pack Water Circus, Puppy Pals Comedic Stunt Dog Show, Raising Cane’s Petting Zoo, Art Walk, Texas Farm Bureau educational exhibits, Coloring Mural, Ag Magician and milking demonstrations. All of these shows are free with gate admission.

The Dancin in the Dirt Concert serios includes Wade Bowen with Scotty Alexander as the opening act on Sept. 16; and The Frontmen with opening act Joe King on Sept. 17.

A complete Fair Catalog can be downloaded at tristatefair. com with all junior livestock competitions, dates, locations and times. Competitions include goats on Sept. 16; heifers on Sept. 17; lambs on Sept 17; barrows on Sept. 18; and steers on Sept. 24.

Other competitions include bantams, rabbits, textiles, culinary, ceramics, photography, BBQ contest, Mutton Bustin’, Swifty Swine Pig Races, TCFA Tasty Lean Beef Contest, Garden & Agronomy and Ag Mechanics, WRPA Team Roping/Steer Wresting/Tie-Down, and Abuelo’s Homemade Salsa Contest The AQHA Versatility Ranch Horse Show will kick off on Sept. 16 at 8 a.m., and the Ranching Heritage Challenge on Sept. 18. Both are at Bill Cody Arena.

The Carnival Midway will open on Sept. 16. The PRCA rodeo will kick off on Sept. 22 through Sept. 24.

New this year is the fair’s clear bag policy. All bags are subject to search and must be clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and cannot exceed 12 inches x 6 inches x 12 inches. Prohibited bags include purse larger than a clutch, briefcases, backpacks, fanny packs, cinch bags, luggage, computer bags and camera bags.
