Texas House approves Ten Commandments bill

The Texas House gave final approval to legislation requiring public schools to place the Ten Commandments in every classroom.The bill, SB 10, would require every public classroom to display a poster or framed copy that is at least 16 inches wide and 20 inches tall.

CCCHA to host free fishing day

Castro County Hispanic Heritage Association of Dimmitt will be hosting “Fishing Day at the Bay on June 7.The free event will be held at Dimmitt Lake at Sheffy Park from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. and will feature fishing, prizes for the largest fish caught, food and lots of fun for all ages.

South Plains College in Levelland announced the students making the president’s and dean’s list for the spring semester, five of which were from Castro County.Justice Velasquez of Dimmitt was among 400 students named to the president’s list. To qualify, students must earn a GPA of 4.
