Texans are a legendarily hardy people often recognized for an assortment of traits like pridefulness, bragging and even stubbornness. Toss in friendly and resilient.

Bootstrapping resilient.

While some of these may be ascribed to the mythic Texan – they are still alive. A native Texan will let

A native Texan will let you know quickly, those traits are a part of us passed down through generations from our forebearers.

Texans think of Jim Bowie, Davy Crockett and William Travis at the Alamo or Texas Ranger Big Foot Wallace who was driving a mail hack from San Antonio to El Paso, lost his mules to Indians and walked the rest of way across the desert and upon arriving, sat down and ate 27 eggs.

And then there are likes of rodeo Tuff Hedeman, who after getting his face bashed in by Bodacious the bull, in 1995, walked out of the arena with blood pouring from his head, under his own power, and had 13 hours of reconstructive surgeries. Hedeman came back for more.

Then there is Lonesome Dove’s Captain Woodrow Call and his intolerance of rude behavior in men. And Nolan Ryan’s similar feelings on the subject.

“Cowboy up,” “cowgirl up,” and “git ’er done” are typical catchphrases. “Pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and get back up on that horse” is a cliché. So is “If you want something to happen, just tell a Texan it can’t be done.”

But the grit behind all those words is something native Texans grew up on. Whatever it is based on, it appears to be “all the right stuff.”

Texas is a huge state with a vast amount of difference in weather. Texans are constantly challenged, often by Mother Nature, but still, there are those of us out there who will, no matter what, eventually come back with, “Aw, this ain’t nothing, I remember back in…. It just needs a little work and some electricity, and we’ll be back in business.”

And most certainly Texas will be back in business and with the uncounted everyday Texans who did everything they could to help out their compatriots. They get the “Texas Tough, Texas Strong, Texas Proud.”

One-hundred-year flood? Five-hundred-year flood? Worst hurricane in history. Worst snow and ice storm ever? Hold our collective beer,

Hold our collective beer, says Texas.

Texans believe they possess something deep within that is unique and therefore – they do.

Yes, we’ve endured a lot of hits through the years and most recently this winter storm. We’ve lost possessions and property and endured a lot of hardships. And it won’t be the last time we are asked to step up.

We won’t forget but we all know that Texans will be okay.
