Of course, I am sad you’re going back to school, because I have to stay home all alone where it’s quiet and do whatever I want.” Moms all over America

It is almost time – the beginning of school.

After the previous year of Covid-19, parents are crossing their fingers that it comes off without any hitches above and beyond the normal ones.

Now come the CVS receiptlength list of supplies, the safety measures and other things necessary to get through that first week of chaos of new schedules.

The school supply list gets longer each year. Why isn’t a ‘pack mule included on the list that features 300 sets of assorted markers and binders?

Then there is getting these kids to school. The same ones who traveled faster than the speed of light all summer will be dragging like a slug through a pile of salt every morning as they get ready for those first classes.

A question I have wondered about and never asked: “Who eats lunch at 10:20 in the morning?” That is quite an adjustment after kids slept until 10:30 a.m. all summer!

I saw an interesting math problem recently: If 12 kids in Classroom A test positive for COVID-19 and they share their lunches with 40 kids from Classrooms B, C, and D, how many days into the school year will we get before teachers and parents have to teach elementary school from their kitchen table again?

A lot of kids are excited to be taking various classes of interest. How come there is no class elective for “Cleaning Your Room Up So That it Doesn’t Look Like a Pig Sty?”

Another question, are schools still dependent on #2 pencils or have they moved up to, say, #33s by now?

How many candy bars and/or rolls of wrapping paper do I have to buy for the music class another song besides Row, Row, Row Your Boat?

In all seriousness, I am sure that students and teachers (and parents) are all glad to see school starting. Kids will reunite with friends and get back into the swing of activities and sports, and life will resume a familiar schedule and hopefully some order.

As a writer/reporter, I look forward to it also. I can’t wait to see the return of familiar faces, athletic competition, FFA, FCCLA, Robotics and other activities.
