The Dimmitt Bobcats Powerlifting qualifying lifters at the Texas High School Powerlifting Association (THSPA) Regional meet this past weekend.
Representing DHS at the contest were
The seven Bobcats were among lifters competing from 26 schools at Sundown in hopes of advancing to the state meet. DHS athletes included Zayvion Gonzalez, Bryan Tarrango, Gabriel Reyes, Sabian Martinez, Gerardo Gonzalez, Matthew Lopez and Martin Hernandez.
Bobcats earning medals were senior Bryan Tarrango, fifth in weight class 132; junior Gabriel Reyes, fourth in weight class 148; and senior Gerardo Gonzalez, fourth in weight class 220.
The top 10 schools/teams were 1. Lubbock Roosevelt; 2. Ballinger; 3. Merkel; 4. Tulia; 5. Clyde; 6. Friona; 7. Big Lake; 8. Crane; 9. Brownfield; and 10. Sonora. Dimmitt Bobcats team place 17th.
The 2022 season has proven to be strongest yet for the Bobcats. The team was coached by Jose Gonzalez and Johnny Nino.
Winners of each weight class for Region 1 Division 3 were Sebastian Garza (114) from Sonora; Christian Orona (123), Stanton; Tristen Thompson (132), Merkel; Oscar Montoya (148), Merkel; Avdan Fish (165), Clyde; Christian Deluna (181), Big Lake Reagan County; Nate Gensler (198), Lubbock Roosevelt; Joe Barrera (220), Tulia; Paul Walker (242), Crane; Kesean Dever (275), Brownfield; Markus Castleberry (308), Ballinger; and Camron Price (SHW), Clyde.
