Several former Dimmitt Cross Country runners hit the streets of Lubbock to participate in the Lubbock Mayor’s Marathon.

The marathon consisted of two divisions: the 26.2-mile course and the 13.1-mile half marathon or 5K. The marathon serves as a qualifier for the Boston Marathon.

Haydon Miller ran the half marathon and Jace Sanchez compete with a team and ran the whole marathon in four sections. Giselle Fuentes also competed.

The Mayor’s Fitness Council hosted this spring's event. Along with sponsors United Supermarkets, Lubbock first responders and other volunteers.

The marathon running course began near Buddy Holly Center and went through the Canyon Lake System, Texas Tech campus and residential neighborhoods in Lubbock. It concluded with a Festival Finish.

Top finisher was Gonzalo Espinoza from El Paso and Mike Palmer from Lubbock was second.
