Naz, Dimmitt set to play in holiday tourneys

The Naz Swifts and Swiftettes and the Dimmitt Bobcats and Bobbies are scheduled to play in three big tournaments at the end of December.

Dimmitt teams will be attending the 63rd Annual Caprock Classic set for Dec. 29-31 in Lubbock, with teams from across Texas and beyond competing. The Caprock Classis is the world’s largest high school high school basketball tournament with brackets divided into two levels of boys and girls teams and have a fourgame guarantee.

For over six decades, the members of the Lubbock Caprock Chapter of AMBUCS has used the tournament as a fundraiser to help raise funds to buy AmTrykes for children and adults with disabilities. Funds from the tournament are also given to other local charities, as well scholarships to therapists.

The Naz Swiftettes are set to play in the 65th Annual Whataburger Tournament. The event is a premier Texas high school holiday basketball tournament and will be held Dec. 28-30 in the Fort Worth area.

The tournament draws 48 teams from far and wide attract more than 30,000 spectators and scouts from across Texas and beyond. The 5,000-seat W.G. Thomas Coliseum of Birdville Independent School District hosts the orange division teams; the 1,500-seat gym at Chisholm Trail High School hosts the boys’ blue division teams; and the 2,200-seat gym at Saginaw High School hosts the girls’ blue division teams.

The Naz Swifts are on the schedule to participate in the Tatum Tough Tournament in Canyon, honoring Tatum Schulte who passed away after a battle with cancer, on Dec. 27-28. The is the second tournament which began in 2021 and will be played at the Joe Lombard Gymnasium at Canyon High School.
