State sales tax revenue $3.8B

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar today said state sales tax revenue totaled nearly $3.85 billion in September, 1.5 percent more than in September 2023. The majority of September sales tax revenue is based on sales made in August and remitted to the agency in September.

CVL ranked among best nursing homes

Country View Living (CVL), a long-term and senior living residence part of Castro County Healthcare (CCH), has recently made “Newsweek’s” list of “America’s Best Nursing Homes 2025”. Under the “50-99 beds” category, CVL rounded out the list at No. 20 in Texas.

WTAMU rises in best school rankings

West Texas A&M University saw a significant improvement in its standing among other schools in the West, according to newly released rankings from U.S. News & World Report.WT ranked at No. 5 among Best Value Schools among schools in the West, up from No. 20 in 2022-2023. The University rose to No.
The NHS Color Run was held this past Saturday and had its biggest turnout ever. The girls faced a 2-mile run and the boys, a 3-mile run. Panhandle, Lazbuddie and Hart XC teams participated along with two runners from Abilene and Brenham who are attempting to run 5K in every county in Texas. Jordy Rowland and North Gin donated water for the run. The event was a fundraiser for the Nazareth Swiftettes.

Bobcats fall to Golden Tornadoes

The Dimmitt Bobcats lost to the Lamesa Golden Tornadoes, 48-34.Lamesa scored 14 points in the first quarter to take the lead and picked up three more touchdowns in the second quarter. Dimmitt scored a touchdown on a 69-yard pass from Jack Lunsford, to end the first half with Lamesa leading 35-6.

DHS Coach Ruby Romero has been reassigned to the roles of head cross country, varsity girls basketball coach, and girls coordinator. In her role as the girls powerlifting coach last year, she led the team through a successful year and took several to the state competition.
