Oklahoma ravages by tornadoes

Oklahoma Govern Kevin Stitt declared a state of emergency in 12 counties following a series oftornadoes and severe weather that killed at least four people and left thousands without electricity due to damage.
The Dimmitt Volunteer Fire Department was presented with a $15,000 check by the 100 Club of the Texas Panhandle. Fire Chief Corey Lane and VFD crew accepted the check and provided a tour of the fire station. The donation was made possible with a grant from the M.S. Doss Foundation in Seminole, Texas, which is committed to supporting the needs of public safety agencies and front-line officers and firefighters who place their lives at risk while performing their duties.

DSEC announces scholarship recipients

Deaf Smith Electric Cooperative (DSEC) has awarded $22,000 in scholarship money to students in its service territory, including three from Castro County.DSEC’s board of directors granted 11 scholarships in the amount of $2,000 each.

Texas students protest Israeli conflict

Students at several Texas universities gathered Monday to protest the Israel-Palestine conflict, including UT Austin, Texas A&M and North Texas State, leading to some violence and making Jewish students fearful to be on campus.

Nazareth Swift Basketball Camp

The Nazareth Swift Basketball Camp is set for May 28-31.The camp is for incoming kindergarten through ninth grade.Campers will have the opportunity to learn and improve basketball skills with an emphasis on fundamental and will compete in daily competitions.

DISD athletic, band physicals scheduled May 15-16

Hosted by Dimmitt Sports Medicine, Dimmitt High School and Middle School physicals are being provided by Medical Center of Dimmitt free of cost to athletes and band members for the 2024-25 school year.Middle school athletes (6th -8th) physicals will begin at 8:30 a.m.
