Firefighters and first responders from the Dimmitt VFD, Nazareth VFD, Hart VFD, Dawn VFD, Deaf Smith Fire Department, Castro and Deaf Smith County Sheriff’s Offices answered a call to a wildfire that threatened the Coronado Acres subdivision, located about 15 miles from Dimmitt just off of US 385 north. Sheriff Sal Rivera said the quick action on the part of all those battling the blaze averted a more serious situation.

Texas Panhandle battles wildfires

Gov. Greg Abbott issued a disaster declaration covering 60 counties in response to wildfire activity, calling for the Texas Division of Emergency Management to send additional resources and firefighters to the hard-hit Texas Panhandle.

The Dimmitt Bobbies Powerlifting team is headed to the TWHSPA Regional Powerlifting competition on March 2. The team is coached by Ruby Romero.Dimmitt had 19 girls qualify in two different divisions, the most DHS has qualified in a single season.

The Nazareth Swiftettes clenched the Area title last Thursday, beating the Follett Lady Panthers, 76-12.The Swiftettes took command in the first quarter, gaining a lead of 19-5 and hit another 17 points in the second quarter, giving them a big lead as the first half came to an end, 36-8.

Wales initiated into Phi Kappa Phi

Halley Wales of Dimmitt, Texas, was recently initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective all-discipline collegiate honor society. Wales was initiated at Texas Tech University.
