Evictions in metropolitan areas are on the rise as Texas landlords are filing more than they did before the COVID 19 pandemic.As the Texas economy boomed in the pandemic era and demand for housing skyrocketed, rents in the state’s major urban areas increased by double digits.

State to build National Guard base

Gov. Greg Abbott announced that the state is building an 80-acre base camp in Eagle Pass for Texas National Guard soldiers who are deployed for Operation Lone Star. The price tag on the base has not yet been revealed.

Castro County first responders answered a call to a two-vehicle accident that resulted in the death of one driver last Thursday.The crash occurred 8.7 miles north of Dimmitt on US 385 about 1:45 p.m., resulting in the death of Russell Smallwood, 61 of Lubbock, Texas.

The Nazareth Swiftettes claimed a win over the Happy Cowgirls, 57-31, clenching the district title. The Swiftettestook the lead in the first quarter over the Cowgirls, 11-2 and continued to outscore Happy in the second quarter, to close the first half 29-9.

The Castro/Hale/Lamb Agronomy Agent with the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service is hosting themonthly Ag Mastermind series at the Hale County Extension Service focusing on tree pruning. The program begins at 9 a.m.and is typically an hour in length. There is no fee to attend.
