Universities and Moral Duty in a Republic

Let me begin with a simple but unsettling question: Is a university amoral?Some would say yes. They would say the university is a neutral space, a marketplace of ideas, where every opinion has its price and no truth is more costly than another.

Alisa Dollar entertained Dimmitt Book Club when they convened here at Rhoads Memorial Library recently to begin the 2025-2026 club year. She provided a humorous account of actual life events that became stories printed in her hometown newspaper in East Texas.

Castro County 4-H had two junior horse judging teams (3rd to 8th grade) compete at the Tri-State Fair. Team one (1st place) included Steeley Moore (2nd overall, 2nd in reasons), Zaybri Rivera, Trystan Crow and Hubb Paulson, and Team 2 (7th place) members Daleyza Garcia, Makenna Fabela, Nicole Birkenfeld and Hayse Moore.

The Nazareth vet science class attended Day 1 of the Dairy Honors Program this past week. They had the opportunity to learn about filtration of water to be reused multiple times day to clean or flush out barns, how to check for mastitis in milk, how a milking parlor operates, different jobs in a dairy and nutrition for dairy cattle. Dairy Honors is a program that is designed to educate and spark interest in young men and women who aspire to start a career in the dairy industry.
