Levelland man to stand trial for capital murder

The Levelland man accused of shooting and killing a Lubbock SWAT commander in July 2021 is set to stand trial in January 2026.Omar Soto-Chavira is charged with capital murder for the death of Commander Joshua Bartlett during a standoff in Levelland and could face the death penalty.

FDA issues warning for frozen shrimp at Walmart

A Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warning has been issued about certain frozen shrimp sold at Walmart that may be radioactive.The FDA has recalled several specific lots of Great Value brand frozen raw shrimp after they detected Cesium-137 in some shipments of the product.

Sheriff’s Office gains new deputy

Deputy Sheriff Jonathan Andrew Velez is the newest addition to the Castro County Sheriff’s Office.Velez graduated from the 131st Panhandle Regional Law Enforcement Academy at Amarillo College on Aug. 21.Velez took his Peace Officer State Exam on Aug. 19, which he passed, and was sworn in on Aug.
Nazareth FFA alumni donated $2,500 to the Hill Country floods Relief Fund through the Texas FFA Crisis Fund where 100% of the donation is directed to those in need and supports the hardest-hit communities, providing much-needed assistance to FFA members, their families, and agricultural science programs impacted by the disaster. Each student in the Naz FFA chapter received a Texas FFA T-shirt in support of the donation.

Death of local child being investigated

An investigation has been launched by the Dimmitt Police Department (DPD), with the assistance of the Texas Rangers, after a 9-year-old child was found unresponsive in a swimming pool on Aug. 19.

Naz Labor Day Picnic scheduled for Aug. 31
