Second special session gets underway

With the first Texas legislative special session in both chambers ending after on Friday after failing to meet a quorum in the House, the House and Senate returned at noon on Saturday for a second special session to face basically the same agenda that sent Democrats fleeing from the state.

Texas Senate passes SB 10 property tax relief bill

During the second called 89th Special Session by Gov. Greg Abbott, the Texas Senate passed Sen. Paul Bettencourt’s Senate Bill 10 (SB 10) on an 18 to 12 vote.The billlowers the voterapproval tax rate (VATR), previously known as the rollback rate, for most large cities and counties from 3.5% to 2.

City Manager Daniel Jackson reported that Oasis Waterplaygrounds begun construction on the new splash park near the Skate Park on Western Circle.

Schools receive accountability ratings

Nazareth, Hart and Dimmitt school district’s accountability ratings were released last week reflecting educational achievement scores for 2025.Nazareth’s overall rating was A (95%); Hart ISD, an A (90%); and Dimmitt had a B (85%).
