Projected inflation hitting dairy production

According to reports, the White House is doubling its inflation forecast this year. Inflation is now projected to rise by 4.8 percent in the fourth quarter of 2021, up from the previous projection of 2 percent forecast in May which the Biden administration blames on supply chain issues.

The pandemic has opened people's eyes to government overreach. As they say, “Never let a crisis go to waste.” As usual, political leaders used the crisis to ban the little guys and clear a path for larger corporations to move full steam ahead.

Harvest Days, Fair a big success

The ‘Fair on the Square’ was a lot of fun with visitors, exhibitors, a parade and lots of activities this past weekend. Normally held at the Castro County Expo, the even took place on the town square and Courthouse grounds. Fair exhibits were judged on Friday morning at The Gathering Place.

4-H signup underway

It is that time of year when youth, families and leaders sign up for the Castro County 4-H program. Castro 4-H has something for everything – be it projects, volunteer work, project leaders and just being a parent who hauls to livestock shows or district events to cheer the youth on.

HPWD to discuss, adopt 2021 tax rate

The High Plains Water District Board of Directors will discuss and take action to adopt the 2021 tax rate at their Sept. 14 regular meeting. The meeting will be held at 1:30 p.m. at the HPWD office, 2930 Avenue Q, in Lubbock.
Democrat Aaron Arguijo kicked off his Texas Senate campaign in Dimmitt recently and several local supporters attended to cheer and spur him on to victory: Gloria Hernandez, Gwen Lewis, Zaira Arguijo, Kay Wendeborn, Joyce Thomas, Angie Casas, Olgo Saucedo and Elizabeth Ojeda. Arguijo’s campaign launch featured a band, various speakers and a street dance. Should Arguijo make it through the Democratic primaries, he is likely to face Republican Kel Seliger in the general election.

Texans may expunge unlawful gun carry convictions

Beginning Sept. 1, people who were previously convicted for unlawfully carrying a gun can have their records wiped clean. For decades, those convicted of unlawful carry of a firearm (UCW) have been unable to expunge their records.

The Nazareth Holy Family Catholic Church has scheduled a Labor Day Picnic for Sept 5. The Spirit of Saint Joseph Parade will kick things off at 10 a.m., with prices awarded to the first, second and third place floats. A roast beef dinner will begin at 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
