Sign up for fair booths underway

Vendors for the Castro County Fair are urged to get signed up early. Spaces are on a first come, first serve basis. Spaces for vendors on the square may be 10’ x 12’ and are available for arts, crafts, commercial or educational purposes. The rate on a regular space is $30 and a double space is $40.

As oil and gas prices increase, production is increasing in the Texas Panhandle. Producers are finally seeing a profit again due to the price per barrel rising, thus starting to drill again. The price currently is around $73, with profitability hitting between $60 and $65 per barrel.

Friona police officer arrested for sexual assault

A Friona police officer has been arrested and charged with sexual assault of a child. Delia Ruiz, 30 of Friona, was arrest after Texas DPS Texas Rangers were requested by the Bovina Police Department to investigate the allegations.

TTU name on Military Times ‘Best for Vets’

For the ninth straight year, Texas Tech University has earned a spot on the 2021 Military Times’ Best for Vets: Colleges rankings. This year, the university ranked 62nd overall and 49th among public institutions. Texas Tech has been on this list every year since 2013.

Fatal accident claims one life

A crash involving a semitruck and a white cargo van resulted in one person injured and another dead last Wednesday. The early morning wreck occurred at Texas Hwy 86 and FM 1055 approximately seven miles west of Dimmitt.
