ENMU Dean’s List

Two Dimmitt High School graduates have been named to the Eastern New Mexico University Spring 2021 Dean’s List. Arien Mendoza and Isabel Vargas both earned their way onto the list. To be named, a student must complete a minimum of 15 credit hours with a GPA of 3.25 or greater.

Well, the governor’s office and Texas politicians are cheering for the so-called “Constitutional Carry” bill that should be signed soon and put into law. My opinion is that it has so many restrictions and lacks real “teeth and spine.

The Texas Legislature, both the House and Senate came to an agreement on the language of HB 1927 last week and passed the bill that would allow Texans age 21-plus, to carry a handgun as of Sept. 1, concealed or openly in a holster in non-prohibited public places.

New agronomy agent based in Castro County

Castro County gained a new agronomy agent recently. Lena Garrison is the new Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service agronomy agent serving the Castro, Hale and Lamb counties area. She is based in the AgriLife Extension office in Castro County.

Cemetery Association to hold annual meeting

The Dimmitt Cemetery Association will hold its 2021 Annual Meeting and workday on Memorial Day, May 31 at the cemetery. Castro Memorial Gardens Cemetery is located one mile south of Dimmit on FM 3215. Small flags will be available for placing on veteran’s graves. The workday will start at 8 a.m.

The Dimmitt Bobcats ended their playoff run at the Area game with a loss to the Tornillo Coyotes this past Saturday, 4-0. The game slipped away with no runs on the scoreboard and batters struggling against a tough Tornillo pitcher who lasted seven innings, allowed three hits and zero runs.
