A fire on U.S. Hwy 60 which was called in last Friday at 1:33 p.m. blazed up and burned a lengthy swath of land along the highway. According to Sheriff Sal Rivera, the cause of the fire is unknown but could be due to sparks from a truck’s brakes or a cigarette thrown out of a car window.

The Commissioners Court approved a proclamation designating April as Castro County Child Abuse and Awareness Month. Castro County joined other counties in Texas as it does each year in promoting awareness for a continuing problem and assistance for victim of child abuse.

DHS sophomore CJ Willey came in with a great performances at the Bobcat Relays on Friday, winning the 110 meter hurdles and 300 meter hurdles, as well as placing second in high jump. DHS senior Haylie Nino ran second in the 800M and 1600M. DHS junior Jordan Garcia ran second in the 3200M run.

The Dimmitt Bobbies competed in the Ralls Lady Rabbit Softball Tournament March 4-6. JC Sepeda was selected as Dimmitt’s Team Player for the tournament. The Dimmitt Bobbies got off to a rough start in the first game of the tournament, falling to the Abernathy Lady Antelopes, 23-3.
