La Madre Mia Study Club met at the John Bunch Complex with Melinda Bridge and Jill Harrison co-hosting for their regular meeting on April 9. Cathy Bunch gave the program with the theme Take Me Out to the Ballpark.
The members were served popcorn in cute popcorn boxes, peanuts and sugar cookies decorated with frosting to look like baseballs. Lemonade, water and tea were also served. While members ate their refreshments, President Tonja Horrell led the club in a short business meeting.
Club member and Hereford Mayor Cathy Bunch gave the program on the history of why the ballpark is named after John Bunch, her fatherin- law. For 26 years, John Bunch made sure all the baseball fields in Hereford were green, mowed and ready to be played on, among many other duties related to baseball in Hereford. His wife tended the concession stand and grilled food to make sure ball game goers were well-fed. The Bunch family had always been at the heart of baseball in Hereford and it was evident.
